Library and Archive Policies

Overview

This section lists all the possible fines and fees for Wiggin Library patrons, as well as what situations necessitate a library account block.

Wiggin Library

  • Overdue Fees. The Wiggin Library does not charge overdue fees to any patron.
  • Damaged Items. Patrons will be billed for the cost to repair or replace material they damaged. If an item is damaged in transit, take a photograph of the book and email library@meadville.edu immediately.
  • Lost Items and Account Blocks.
    • When an item is 21 days overdue, a block will be placed on the patron’s library account. This block applies to both Wiggin Library and I-Share library materials.
    • At 35 days overdue the item is considered lost and the cost of the book will be applied to the patron’s library account. The default fine is set to $40.00 and is adjusted to the actual cost of the book at time of billing. The patron’s account block will remain in place until the cost is paid and/or the item is returned. The lost item fee will be equal to the cost to replace the book.
    • Fines and fees are paid through the Business Office of Meadville Lombard.
    • Patrons are not responsible for books the library has shipped to them that are lost in the mail but are responsible for the books they return to Meadville Lombard through the mail.
    • Meadville Lombard students (graduate and LIGHT) will be restricted from registering for classes, completing their certificate, or graduating until outstanding balances are cleared
    • Alum Patrons will be have holds placed on their Meadville Lombard account and be unable to request their transcripts until outstanding balances are cleared.

I-Share Libraries

  • Patrons are subject to fines and fees for lost or damaged materials from I-Share libraries. I-Share libraries do not charge overdue fees. Meadville Lombard patrons who accrue fines or fees at I-Share libraries are responsible for resolving those fines or fees. Fines and fees at other libraries are administered according to those libraries’ polices and not Meadville Lombard’s policies.
  • Meadville Lombard library staff are not able to intercede on a patron’s behalf and cannot accept payment for charges at another library. Patrons must contact the library at which they have outstanding charges for more information about the fees, and to find out how to pay the charges.
  • Overdue/lost items and outstanding charges at other libraries will limit a patron’s access to materials through I-Share and the Wiggin Library. Just as with material from Wiggin Library, graduate students will be restricted from registering for classes or graduating until outstanding I-Share balances are cleared.

Outstanding Balances

  • All patrons with lost books and/or outstanding balance will be blocked from checking out additional items until all books are returned and all fees are paid. This block applies to both Wiggin Library and I-Share library materials.
  • Meadville Lombard students (graduate and LIGHT) with an outstanding balance will be reported to the Business Office and the Registrar. Students (graduate and LIGHT) will be restricted from registering for classes, completing their certificate, or graduating until outstanding balances are cleared.
