Library and Archives Homepage: Community Patrons

Welcome!

The Meadville Lombard Library and Archives provide resources not only to Meadville Lombard students and faculty, but also to religious professionals, members of the broader Unitarian Universalist community, and scholars of all (or no) faiths. Our complete library catalog is accessible to search online and most of our books can be shipped directly to users. Our digital archive is open to all users and new material is added every month.

Wiggin Library Resources and Services

Alums and community patrons have access to all print resources held in the Wiggin Library. The Wiggin Library contains over 35,000 volumes, specializing in Unitarianism, Universalism, and Unitarian Universalism. This collection is available to faculty, students, and community members, and most of our books can be circulated through the mail. If you are a current student, click here to access to the student catalog, which includes access to additional digital resources and I-Share.

The Wiggin Library holds at least one copy of every published book/article on the Ministerial Fellowship Committee (MFC) reading list (available through the UUA website). These materials are available to every patron with circulation privileges. MFC books can be browsed based on the seven MFC ministerial competencies. A selection of ebooks from the MFC reading list are also available

Home delivery is a service available to Meadville Lombard students, faculty, staff, and community library patrons. Any book in the circulating collection published after 1870 (depending on condition) and I-Share items (for MLTS students) can be shipped to to your home. The Wiggin Library covers the cost of shipping library items to patrons, with patrons paying the return shipping. Library materials can be sent via USPS using library rate or media mail. For more information about receiving and return books via the mail, see Using the Online Catalog - USPS Delivery Guide.

To return library items...

  • UU Resources provides a curated selection of Unitarian, Universalist, and Unitarian Universalist research resources.
  • Subject Guides provides access to library resources organized around specific topics. Of particular note is the A-Z Resource list, which is a searchable list of over 400 digital resources databases and online resources related to religion.

Wiggin Library has a team of experienced theological librarians serving its patrons. Our librarians are subject specialists in Unitarian Universalism. We can provide research assistance related to Unitarianism, Universalism, Unitarian Universalism, Liberal Religion, Humanism, Spiritualism, and New Religious Movements.

The Library and Archives also provides support related to citation practices, UU archival research, graduate school reading strategies, and much more. If you think we can help, just ask!

Archives

At Meadville Lombard, archiving is a form of justice-making work. We take special steps to preserve the richness and diversity of Unitarian Universalism within the archival record. We have been collecting history for over 170 years and hold material from students and scholars, laity and ministers, and churches and organizations around the world. As the only exclusively UU archive, we take seriously the trust the community has placed in us to preserve our shared history.

Special Collections

A Unitarian Universalist archive involves more than simply collecting UU materials; it means applying our UU values and principles to how the archive functions. One way we do that is through our Special Collections. Our special collections are gatherings of unique archival materials produced by a specific community traditionally excluded from the archival record.  Special collections are a vital part of the Meadville Lombard Archives and Special Collections because they empower communities underserved by archives to preserve and make accessible their history.

Still can't find what you are looking for?

If you are looking for more specialized databases and resources, check out our A-Z Resources List. We have over 400 databases and other digital resources available in the A-Z Resources List, most of which are accessible to alumni and community users.
