Library Support For Faculty Teaching : Using the Library Space

Introduction

The Wiggin Library is located on the 6th floor of 180 N Wabash. It is a beautiful, sun filled spaced that is meant to be used. Faculty can reserve time in the library for unstructured student research, group projects, or other activities. To schedule a time, email library@meadville.edu

Space Overview

Size

  • The library can easily handle 20± students in a variety of configurations, including in one large group, small breakout groups, or one-on-one individual instruction.

Facilities:

  • Two staffed circulation/reference desks for students to work with library staff 
  • Printing (free for students)
  • Photocopier 
  • 2 individual study carrels
  • 3 tables for group work
  • 2 large tables for single person use
  • Reference section and periodical section available for students to browse
  • Full access to stacks
  • Restrooms (gender neutral, single-use restroom is on the 7th floor)

Common Uses

  • Instruction Sessions While library staff can come to the classroom, it is common during Intensives to move the entire class to the library for instruction sessions. 
  • Research/Writing Faculty can schedule time where students can spend unstructured time in the library, checking out books, finding and reading articles, and writing. This often occurs after a library/research instruction session. 
  • Breakout Space If you are doing small group work, faculty can send two to three groups up to the library so they can have quiet spaces to do group work.
