Library: Library Support For Faculty Teaching : Using the Library Space

Introduction

The Wiggin Library is located on the 6th floor of 180 N Wabash. It is a beautiful, sun filled spaced that is meant to be used. Faculty can reserve time in the library for unstructured student research, group projects, or other activities. To schedule a time, email library@meadville.edu.

Space Overview

Size

The library can easily handle 20± students in a variety of configurations, including in one large group, small breakout groups, or one-on-one individual instruction.

Facilities:

Two staffed circulation/reference desks for students to work with library staff
Printing (free for students)
Photocopier
2 individual study carrels
3 tables for group work
2 large tables for single person use
Reference section and periodical section available for students to browse
Full access to stacks
Restrooms (gender neutral, single-use restroom is on the 7th floor)

Common Uses

Instruction Sessions While library staff can come to the classroom, it is common during Intensives to move the entire class to the library for instruction sessions.
Research/Writing Faculty can schedule time where students can spend unstructured time in the library, checking out books, finding and reading articles, and writing. This often occurs after a library/research instruction session.
Breakout Space If you are doing small group work, faculty can send two to three groups up to the library so they can have quiet spaces to do group work.
