How to Read for Grad School

Be purposeful

Be deliberate about what you want to get from the reading, what you were meant to get, and how it fits into conversations you're having in class and outside of class.

As you read, ask yourself...

  • What is the author trying to say?
  • What is motivating the author's exploration of the topic?
  • What does this research contribute?
  • What academic conversations is the author trying to align with?
  • What are the main arguments of the piece?
  • How does this relate to my other assigned readings?
